Ghost Sighting Barnsley

we live in a terrace built in 1901 in barnsley...
when we were redecorating the bathroom we pulled off all the plaster...i found a 1901 penny inserted in the brickwork...was quite impressed at the find! thats same day my little girl (aged 2 or 3 at the time) kept saying "daddy that dead man is sad" i asked her who she was talking about ...she said "the dead man with his cat in the bathroom" the next few days she talked about him all the time.
about 3 or 4 days after we were woken at 2am by the sound of a cat meowing really really loud.... me, my wife and step daughter all ran to where the noise was coming from (the bathroom) the noise was deafening like the cat was right next to us. the people next door didnt have a cat either!! i ran out side and i could hear it but it was coming from inside not outside!!!
the next night the same happened. we were freaking out a little especially my step daughter who was 12. the plasterer was due the next day so i placed the coin back in the wall and the wall was re plastered... the meowing stopped...and my little girl never mentioned the man again!!

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Beauchief

Beauchief Abbey is reported to be haunted.

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Dore

a few years ago I used to work at Ash House old peoples home at Dore. We had a resident who although quite normal most of the time was very agitated at meal times often unable to go into the dining room crying "look at the children". We moved her to another room which we served her meals in. Later on I discovered that prior to the war Ash House had been a hospice for sick children and the dining room had been used for terminal children. Also the same building was said to be haunted by the ghost of a former owner who had hung himself on the main staircase. I remember always being cold on the stairs however there was ahuge stained glass window there so what did I expect! Other strange events happened there but you'd have to buy me a pint to bore you with those

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Kiveton

I can confirm the sighting of the highwayman @ Packman Lane.

Coming from Kiveton Park myself I have seen it numerous times and also the spirit of the boy running across the road after the dip as well!!

Packman Lane is supposedly an old roman road apparently and I've heard a rumour that a small troop of roman soldiers walk the lane at nightime- cant confirm this though unfortunately

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Kiveton

the ghost at kiveton is on packman lane i,ve seen it on two occassions and although im a beleiver in such things im also very sceptical at sightings so i stayed for about 15 minutes ruling out all other options eg moonlight ,reflections etc
it is supposed to be a highway man who roamed the area of kiveton ,todwick etc which is why no feet are ever seen as he is supposed to be on horesback and as well as crossing rd he also cicles in feilds at side as if waiting for coach

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Stocksbridge Bybass

There's obviously the old monk and the Ring a roses children on the Stocksbridge bypass and another little known one...

(sighting verified by my scientific minded i.e. ghost non-believer uncle)... over at Kiveton Park, there's a lane up to a farm. If you take the main road to kiveton park station then cross the tracks at the level crossing, follow the road up and go straight across at the cross roads (this is particularly creepy at dusk!).

Carry along and in one of the dips of the road, near to a stile and gate, a ghostly image should run across in front of you.

thought the be the son of the local farmer who many years ago ran him over at this point in a tragic accident

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Mosborough Hall

I live right next door to the mosborough hall hotel, and thats haunted by a woman dressed in white (its always white isnt it), who walks through the wall acoording to one story, runs through it in another, and god knows wot else. the story seems to change everytime, one says she is running getting chased by a guy who raped and murdered her, another says its a girl who died of suffocation hiding in a chest, and another is she fell out of a window and broke her neck... either way its haunted

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Fulwood

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Manor Castle

Perhaps the famous and well known of all Sheffield ghosts has to be the apparition of Mary Queen of Scots that haunts Manor Castle. Now the ghost of Mary Queen of Scots has appeared all over the country, but seems to be a regular inhabitant of the old Turret House of Manor Castle.

Way back in the 15th century the castle was the property of the Earl of Shrewsbury and on the orders of Queen Elizabeth, the young Scottish Queen was imprisoned there and so the Turret House became Marys prison for fourteen long years.

The strange happenings were first recorded by the caretakers of the building during the 1930s and tales of a beautiful lady, dressed in black, gliding across the floor and through walls were also circulating. Although the people who lived in the house at the time refused to discuss the ghost, it was reported to have been seen by many people.

People who stayed at the house often left in the middle of the night and refused to go back again even in daylight. The dog that lived there would bark and whimper frantically if left outside on its own and cower in a corner if let inside.

Perhaps the strangest of all the occurrences that happened at the Castle was the story of an old extremely heavy incense burner kept on the top floor in the shape of an imp used to keep evil spirits away. One night everyone in the house was awakened by loud banging coming from upstairs. Upon checking the entire house it was found nothing was amiss. A while later the noises started again. Again nothing was found to be amiss, but to be sure they marked a chalk circle around the burner and again retired to bed. After a very sleepless night they awoke the next morning and went to check the burner, which although far too heavy to move by even four grown men was completely outside the circle.

Maybe the ghost of Mary Queen of Scots will haunt the Turret House for as long as it still stands or even when the Turrent House is long gone. Maybe its just the over active imagination of the people who have lived or stayed there that conjured up the spirit of a long dead Scottish Queen.

Ghost Sighting Sheffield Park Cinema

In 1969, I worked evenings at the Park Cinema, which was no longer a picyure house but a Star Bingo. One of my jobs at the end of the night was to go upstairs to the Circle ( which was no longer used) and turn out all the lights ( some of which were the old gaslights).

One evening as I was going in to one of the upstairs corridors from the Main Circle to turn out the corridor lights I felt a rush of cold air and an overpowering smell of violets and the gas light on the wall belw out. I had a torch so apart from freaking a bit at the initial shock I "calmly" ran out. I was told the story at the time about a young woman who was either murdered or disappeared around there but I can't remember the ins and outs. I'll see if I can chase the research up about the Park Cinema
